Wyandotte
Chicken
The Wyandotte is a handsome American dual-purpose breed from the 1870s, first appearing in its striking silver-laced pattern and later in many others. Its heavy body and neat rose comb make it exceptionally cold-hardy and frostbite-resistant, and hens are dependable layers of large brown eggs. Calm, easygoing and friendly, Wyandottes tolerate confinement well and make a reliable family flock bird. All-round hardiness and good looks make them a favorite for beginners and homesteaders alike.
