Content Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Much of what is on Chicken Map was written by somebody else: a seller describing their flock, a person rehoming three hens, a rescue listing what it can take in. This page says what we do not allow in that content, how to tell us about something, and what happens next.

It applies to listings, storefront profiles, bulletin and rehoming posts, photos, and messages sent through the site.

What is not allowed

Fighting birds, and anything that supports them

Gamefowl offered for fighting, fighting implements, or language advertising birds as fight-ready. This is a permanent removal, not a warning.

Neglect and cruelty

Birds kept or transported in conditions that would injure them, and photos showing it. We are not a welfare authority and we do not investigate; we remove the listing and, where there is a specific animal at risk, we tell the reporter who can act.

Illegal sales

Sales that break state or local law, including shipping birds where it is not permitted, selling species that require a licence the seller does not hold, or ignoring NPIP requirements where they apply.

Scams and misrepresentation

Payment requested up front for birds that do not exist, a business that is not real, invented NPIP numbers, or a listing claiming a certification it does not have.

Someone else's content

Photos or descriptions copied from another seller, hatchery or website without permission.

Harassment, and other people's private information

Targeting a person, or posting someone's home address, phone number or other private details — including your own neighbour's. Our listings deliberately mask exact locations; do not undo that for someone else.

Sexual content, and content involving minors

Neither belongs anywhere on a poultry directory.

Spam

Advertising something unrelated, the same post repeatedly, or using a listing as a backlink.

If birds are in danger right now

Call your local animal control, sheriff’s office, or state department of agriculture. They can act today; we can take a listing down, which is not the same thing and does not help the birds. Report it to us as well if you want the listing gone, but do that second.

How to report something

  • Use the Report link on the bulletin post, listing or storefront itself. That is the best route: it tells us exactly which thing you mean.
  • Or use the contact form and choose “Report content on the site”. Paste the link if you can. Use this for anything with no Report link of its own.

You do not need an account, and you do not have to give us your email address. Giving one lets us come back with a question; we do not promise to tell you the outcome, and we never show your email to the person you reported. What a report stores, including why it keeps your IP address, is in the Privacy Policy.

What happens after you report

  • A person reads it. There is no automated takedown on this site: every removal is a human decision, recorded with who made it and why.
  • We look at the content, not at who reported it. Several reports on one thing move it up the queue; they do not decide the outcome.
  • If it breaks this policy we remove it. A storefront can lose its content while the business keeps its place in the directory — that is a deliberate middle step, not an oversight.
  • We will not tell you what we decided about someone else’s content, and you will not always see a change. Some reports need no action, and some are about things we cannot verify.
  • Removed content stays removed until we decide otherwise. Owners cannot put it back themselves.

If your content was removed

You will see “removed by site staff” on it in your profile.

To appeal, use the contact form, say that it is an appeal, and include a link to what was removed and why you think it was a mistake. A person reads every appeal, and we aim to reply within 7 days. We may restore the content, or keep it down and tell you why. If you have new information, send it and we will look again.

Copyright complaints

If something here is your photo or your text and it was used without permission, tell us and we will take it down. Report it with “Someone else’s photo or text” as the reason, or use the contact form.
