The Whiting True Blue was developed in Colorado by poultry geneticist Dr. Tom Whiting, who bred Ameraucanas into his fly-tying Leghorn lines and ended up with an outstanding blue-egg production bird. Hens lay up to around 300 large blue eggs a year and hold that rate for longer than most breeds do. They come in a wide scatter of feather colors because the line was never selected for looks, and they're friendly and non-aggressive but genuinely active — free-range birds that would rather forage than be handled. A great pick if you want blue eggs in quantity and have space to let them range.

A slim Leghorn-ish layer with a pea comb but no beard or muffs, in a random colour — the blue egg confirms it
