Ameraucana
ChickenRare breed
The Ameraucana is America's true blue-egg breed, developed in the 1970s–80s from Chilean Araucana stock but bred with muffs, a beard and a proper tail instead of the Araucana's risky ear tufts. A pea comb and slate legs round out the look, and hens reliably lay pastel blue eggs, often right through winter. Calm and hardy but a touch independent, they're friendly without being cuddle-seekers. A rewarding, cold-tolerant choice for anyone who wants blue eggs from a sound, healthy bird.
