Zombie
Chicken

The Zombie is a new American hybrid, developed around 2023 or 2024 by crossing an Ayam Cemani rooster with a White Leghorn hen. The Cemani side gives it dark skin, legs, beak, comb and wattles; the Leghorn side gives it pale, nearly white feathers — usually broken by irregular black or gray patches — and a Leghorn's laying ability, around 270 to 300 white to lightly tinted eggs a year. Hens are calm and friendly, forage well and rarely if ever go broody. It is a hatchery cross rather than a breed, with no APA standard. Some hatcheries also sell darker “zombie” birds bred from Ayam Cemani and Silkie lines, with irregular combs and extra toes; those are a different cross.
Weight
How to spot it
- Comb
Single - Single comb, dark — blackish-gray like the face and wattles
- Legs & feet
- Dark legs and dark skin, inherited from the Ayam Cemani side
- Plumage
- Nearly white, with irregular black or gray spots and patches
- Look for
- Pale feathers over a dark face, comb and legs — the contrast is the whole look, and no other white layer has it
