The Indio Gigante is a modern Brazilian breed built from Asian game stock and selected for extreme height — good birds stand well over three feet with the neck extended, on very long legs over a hard-feathered body. It is bred for show and for size rather than production, though hens lay a respectable 150 to 200 tinted eggs a year for a game-derived bird. Temperament is calmer than the Asian game breeds behind it and keepers generally describe them as manageable. The breed is not recognised by the APA and standards vary between breeder associations.
