The Freedom Ranger is a slower-growing meat bird bred as an alternative to the Cornish Cross, reaching table weight in nine to eleven weeks rather than six. The extra time buys real foraging behaviour, sounder legs, and firmer darker meat that many keepers prefer, at the cost of more feed per pound. Plumage is typically red or bronze. They suit pasture systems where birds are expected to range rather than sit at a feeder.

A meat bird that actually forages — sounder on its legs and far more active than a Cornish Cross of the same age
