The Royal Palm is a small, strikingly marked turkey: white, with each feather sharply edged in metallic black and a black saddle. The pattern first appeared in the 1920s on Enoch Carson's farm in Lake Worth, Florida, from a mixed flock of Black, Bronze, Narragansett and wild turkeys, and the APA recognised it in 1971. At about 22 lb for a mature tom and 12 lb for a hen it suits small properties. Royal Palms fly well, forage keenly and are curious about people; the Conservancy notes they seem somewhat more heat tolerant than other strains.
