Frizzle
Chicken
The Frizzle isn't a breed so much as a feather trait — a genetic mutation, documented since the 1600s, that curls each feather outward for a windswept, just-toweled-off look. It shows up in many breeds (Cochins, Polish, Plymouth Rocks, Orpingtons), and frizzled birds are typically docile, quiet lap chickens that do well with children and first-time keepers. The trade-off is those curled feathers insulate poorly, so frizzles feel cold and wet more than smooth-feathered birds and appreciate dry, sheltered housing. Charming and gentle, they're best where winters are mild or coops are cozy.
